Hello!
We founded Big Future in 2024 with more than 40 years of combined experience at the highest levels of business, politics, advocacy, and communications – and, crucially, a strong record of success operating at the nexus of these arenas in steering some of the world’s most admired businesses and brands.
What brought us together was a shared belief in the power of business to create outsize value for humanity – while also creating maximum value for employees and shareholders.
What drives us now is a crystal clear POV – based in evidence and experience – that the future belongs to brands that can prove they’re on the side of the people, and a desire to help create thriving, resilient businesses by supporting thriving, resilient communities.
Adam fetcher
Co-Founder
Equipped with a sharp perspective on what drives the modern media environment honed in the crucible of national politics, Adam has a proven track record of helping brands unlock growth through smart, focused advocacy strategies – grounded in consistent action and activated with compelling, integrated campaigns that break through. Adam’s career includes executive-level roles and extensive client work with some of the world’s most admired organizations, from Patagonia to Obama, and his ideas have been published, featured or cited in a wide range of top media outlets.
Most recently, Adam served as Senior Director of Communications for Policy, Sustainability and Climate at Rivian. There, he leveraged insights around the politics of climate change to develop an unexpected strategy to drive forward Rivian’s climate mission and grow EV adoption by shifting away from climate messaging in favor of unifying consumer interest in performance and practical considerations.
From 2021-2023, Adam was Senior Director of Communications and Public Engagement at New Belgium Brewing, where he oversaw communications, customer service, content creation, and social and digital strategy during a period of record growth for the company. At New Belgium, Adam led work to define the company’s innovative Human Powered Business model and advocate for wider adoption, while playing a key role in the evolution of iconic brands like Fat Tire, Voodoo Ranger, and Bell’s Two Hearted.
In 2019, Adam joined Lyft as Senior Director of Brand Advocacy, where he developed and helped launch an advocacy and impact platform called LyftUp – launched with a surprise visit by LeBron James to announce free bikeshare memberships to hundreds of YMCA youth in Harlem.
Adam previously spent several years as Patagonia’s Director of Global Communications, where he played a key role in evolving the company’s famous activist voice for a modern media environment. At Patagonia, Adam implemented a highly proactive and unconventional approach – grounded in radical transparency and bold advocacy – that generated unprecedented media attention and helped nearly double sales during that period.
Before entering business, Adam played key communications roles in President Obama’s campaigns and administration. In 2012, Adam was named Deputy National Press Secretary for President Obama's reelection campaign, based in Chicago. During Obama’s first term, Adam served as Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of the Interior and as a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – roles in which he engaged with top national reporters daily on a wide range of front-page issues and major crises. In 2013, Adam worked alongside Obama colleagues Robert Gibbs and Ben LaBolt to launch The Incite Agency, a strategic consultancy based in Washington, D.C.
Adam earned a B.A. in English from Carleton College. Beyond professional life, Adam loves experimenting in the kitchen and maximizing time outdoors – whether paddling in the backcountry of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, or pitching a tent in the backyard for his daughter’s first camping overnight.
Adam leads with integrity and optimism – combining an aspirational vision for the future with a deep knowledge of business pragmatism.
